From Junction 6 of the M5 take the A449 towards Kidderminster. After approximately 6 miles take the left fork signposted A4133 Ombersley, Droitwich, Tenbury. At the first roundabout take the first exit left which is the A4133 signposted Tenbury.
Follow this road for approximately 2 miles until it meets the A443 at Holt Heath. Turn right onto the A443 signposted Tenbury. Follow the A443 for approximately 5 miles to Great Witley.
At Great Witley take the left turn just after the petrol station onto the B4203 to Bromyard. Follow this road for 2 miles until it drops down a long hill into the River Teme valley. Just after the road crosses the river bridge take the first left signposted Shelsley Walsh. Follow this road for approximately 2 miles the venue is on the right hand side (This road is narrow, take care, drive slowly. You may encounter cyclists… obviously!)
Shelsley Walsh Speed Hill Climb in Worcestershire. Shelsley Walsh is the oldest motor sport venue in continuous use in the world. First used in 1905, it is older than Indianapolis, Le Mans or Monza. Brooklands has been and gone, but Shelsley Walsh is still here.
Wyre Forest Cycle Racing Club and Worcester St John’s Cycling Club have teamed up with the Midland Automobile Club to promote this inaugural event, which is an annual feature of the UK cycling calendar.
The 12ft wide (3.66m) wide smooth tarmac surface of the hill climb course runs for 1000 yards (914 metres) gaining an elevation of 328 feet (100 metres). This gives an average gradient of 1:9 (11%) with a maximum gradient of 1:6 (17%).
The event will be run under Cycling Time Trial regulations with separate event categories for men and women, as well as prizes for other classifications. The event can be entered from here, which links to the Cycling Time Trial event entry system.
Spectators are very welcome, the Strastone Cafe will be open all day at the base of the hill for hot food and drinks. For the riders, the Shelsley Walsh covered pit area will be available for preparation and warm up. The hill climb course will be open for practice before the main competition begins.
